As the sixth bishop, I pledge to build upon the legacy of my predecessors, sowing the seeds of the Gospel alongside our clergy. Through my own prayer, fasting, and penance, and in dedicated service to our religious and laity, I ask for your prayers.
Pray that I may be a prudent and faithful steward of the flock entrusted to me: proclaiming the truth of the Church with love, preserving the Apostolic faith with the authority of the Risen Christ, and serving as a stronghold of unity and peace through the liturgical and sacramental life of the Church.
Most Reverend Artur Bubnevych Bishop of the Eparchy of Phoenix
Bishop Artur will be travelling across the southern half of California for Holy Week, going as far north as San Luis Obispo and as far south as San Diego before celebrating Pascha with St. Nicholas of Myra in Fontana.
Early Bird pricing ends March 31! Registration is open for the next ByzanTEEN Youth Ralley in Cleveland, OH on July 9-12. Together with their peers, youth actively engage in living, growing in, and promoting the Byzantine Catholic tradition.
In response to unsettling events across the globe, the bishops of the Eastern Catholic churches published a short letter underlining continuing solidarity with our suffering faithful in the war zones of the world entitled: “A Cry For Peace and Justice from the East-ern Catholic Bishops of the United States" during their annual meeting in St. Louis, MO.
Upon His death, Christ descended into the regions of Hades/Sheol, the place for the souls of the just who had died until then. A verse of Psalm 119 sung during the Matins of Holy Saturday says, "Wishing to save Adam You came down to the earth; not finding him on earth, O Master, You descended to Hades seeking him." The hymns of Holy Saturday commemorate His presence in Hades and the chanting of Ps. 119 and its verses marvel at His condescension. The fact that Christ appears in Hades is a wonder, " O Life, how can You die?" (Verse on Ps 119.)
Christ Is Risen! Indeed He Is Risen!
Pascha is the feast of feasts of the Christian year - the commemoration of the glorious Resurrection of our Lord, God and Savior Jesus Christ.
Today is the eighth day after Pascha. It is the eighth day of the Resurrection, and it is the commemoration of the appearance of the Risen Lord to the apostles and most especially, Thomas, who doubted the testimony of the apostles and holy women and insisted he would not believe unless “I put my fingers into the wounds” of Jesus’ body.
