Akathistos Saturday

The Saturday after the fourth Sunday of Great Lent is given over to the Akathist in honor of the Mother of God. The Akathist is sung in church at Matins, and then the Divine Liturgy follows. The Akathist was so popular in the Eastern Roman Empire that there was no room to sit down, hence the title "akathistos", which means simply "to stand."
